Russian car market grew by 9% in January—May

In January—May 2026, 552.2 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia (up to three years), which is 9% more than in the same period last year (506.3 thousand units). This was reported to Izvestia on June 3 by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

The domestic car market reached 348.7 thousand units in five months, which is 26% more than in January—May 2025. The share of Russian equipment increased by 8 percentage points (percentage points) compared to the same period last year and reached 63%.

In the segment of passenger cars, the share of domestically produced machinery for the specified period was 62%, in the segment of light commercial vehicles — 80%, in the segment of trucks — 66%, in the segment of buses — 75%.

In addition, 4,460 new electric vehicles were sold in five months, which is 19% more than in the same period last year. At the same time, the share of electric cars manufactured in the Russian Federation reached 51%, whereas last year during the same period their share was 20%.
