The National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the country and the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) have appealed to the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) not to review the current restrictions on Russia and Belarus. The corresponding letter is posted on the UAF website.

The appeal was sent to FIFA President Gianni Infantino and UEFA President Alexander Ceferin. The authors were Vadim Gutzeit, President of the NOC of Ukraine, Matvey Bedny, Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, and Andriy Shevchenko, President of the UAF.

"We ask FIFA and UEFA not to change the current decision and sanctions against Russia, and we express our conviction that similar sanctions should be applied to Belarus in football, as well as to the Russian Football Union," the letter says.

The reason for the appeal was the decision of the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on May 7 to fully restore the participation of Belarusian athletes in international competitions under state symbols. At the same time, the issue of the possible return of Russian athletes to international tournaments was raised at the meeting.

The authors of the appeal stated that they consider it premature to change the current restrictions. They noted that their position "remains unchanged" and is the need to maintain sanctions until the end of the conflict in Ukraine.Газета.Ru ".

In addition, the letter emphasizes that the Ukrainian side expects to maintain a consistent approach from international sports organizations and continue dialogue with FIFA and UEFA on the participation of Russian and Belarusian representatives in international sports.

The day before, the International Fencing Federation (FIE) allowed the Russian adult national teams to compete with the flag and anthem. The decision will take effect from the World Fencing Championships in Hong Kong, which will be held on July 22-30 this year. The decision is related to the updated recommendations of the IOC.

Prior to that, on May 28, Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation, head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), announced that the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) had annulled the decision to suspend the national teams of Russia and Belarus from participating in international tournaments.

Later, the organization clarified that the request for admission of Russians would be further analyzed, taking into account security issues, operational activities and the sports organization of tournaments. Each decision will be made separately for each team and each specific competition.
