Barbashev matched Ovechkin in goals in the Stanley Cup Finals
Vegas Golden Knights forward Ivan Barbashev equaled the number of goals scored in the Stanley Cup finals with Washington captain Alexander Ovechkin, the best sniper in the history of the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season.
The goal in the first game of the final stage against the Carolina Hurricanes (5-4) was Barbashev's third in meetings at this stage. Alexander Ovechkin, Pavel Bure and Igor Larionov also scored three goals from the Russians in the decisive series.
Evgeni Malkin, Sergey Fedorov (both with 8 goals), Nikita Kucherov (6), Vladimir Tarasenko (5), Valery Nichushkin, Alexey Kovalev, Sergey Brylin (all with 4 goals) scored the most goals among Russian players.
Earlier in the day, Vegas beat Carolina in the first match of the final playoff series of the National Hockey League (NHL). Shi Theodore scored goals for the winners (14th minute), Russian striker Ivan Barbashev (21st), William Karlsson (25th), Brett Howden (42nd) and Tomas Gertl (57th). Nikolai Ehlers scored doubles for Carolina (1st and 13th), as well as goals from Jordan Staal (33rd) and Shane Gostisber (52nd).
