Yampolskaya proposed to establish Children's Book Day in Russia on March 26
Elena Yampolskaya, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation on Culture and Art, on June 2, during a meeting of the Council for the Implementation of State Policy in the field of support for the Russian Language and the Languages of the Peoples of Russia, proposed to establish Children's Book Day in the country and celebrate it on March 26.
"This year, at the opening ceremony of the All—Russian Children's Book Week <...>, an idea arose and was warmly supported by children and parents in the audience — to establish Children's Book Day in Russia and celebrate it annually on March 26," Yampolskaya said.
According to her, it was on this day in 1943 that the "Book's Name Day" was held in the Pillared Hall for the first time. In addition, an aide to the Russian president suggested reviving Pushkin Society on the eve of Russia's Pushkin Day.
"It was created back in 1882. In Soviet times, it became an all-Union state. The last enthusiast of this movement was Dmitry Sergeevich Likhachev. With his passing, the history of Pushkin Society ends," explained Yampolskaya.
On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin called for the launch of a large-scale publishing project "Library of Literary Masterpieces of the Peoples of Russia." According to the President, the creation of this series is the fulfillment of one of the instructions on the issues of supporting the Russian language and the languages of the peoples of the Russian Federation.
