In Russia, on June 9, Fedorin's Day was celebrated, also known as Fedora Domovnitsa. Many traditions of this day were associated with the house and its main guardian, the brownie. During the holiday, it was important to keep order in the home and avoid unnecessary conversations. It was believed that any careless word or deed could affect the well-being of the family, as well as anger the brownie.
The main focus was on quiet work. The owners were busy tidying up the house and garden: weeding, loosening the beds and whitewashing the trunks of trees in the garden. Special attention was paid to livestock — they were carefully cleaned, fed with the best food and went around the barn with prayer to protect them from diseases and the evil eye.
A lot of weather observations were connected with Fedorin's day. The peasants closely watched nature to understand what the summer and harvest would be like. For example, it was believed that if the morning turned out to be foggy, there would be a lot of mushrooms. And if there is a lot of dew in the morning, it will lead to a good harvest of cucumbers.
Other signs of the day:
- clear and quiet day — summer will be dry and warm;
- bees are actively flying — for stable good weather;
- The wind increases in the evening, leading to a change in the weather.;
- birds sing loudly and in unison — on clear days;

What not to do on June 9th
There were certain prohibitions and superstitions on the holiday. Our ancestors feared that violating these rules could bring trouble to the home and family. For example, it was forbidden to take out the garbage from the hut — together with it it was possible to "sweep out" luck. It was also strictly forbidden to remember evil spirits — they believed that on this day evil spirits were especially close to the human world.

What is the church holiday on June 9th?
On June 9 (May 27, Old Style), the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the Martyr Theodora of Alexandria and the Holy Martyr Ferapont of Sardis. These saints suffered for the Christian faith in different historical periods, but their feat unites perseverance and devotion to Christ. On the day of their memory, divine services are held in churches, during which believers recall their life path.
Saint Theodora of Alexandria lived in the third century and suffered under Emperor Diocletian. She fearlessly called herself a Christian. When asked why she did not want to get married, Theodora replied that she had dedicated her life to God. She was saved from abuse by the young warrior Didim, who gave her his cloak and allowed her to escape unnoticed. When the governor found out about this, he ordered Didymus to be sentenced to death. Theodora voluntarily came to the place of execution and asked for the same fate for herself.
Hieromartyr Ferapont was bishop of Sardis in Asia Minor in the 3rd century. He zealously preached Christianity and converted many pagans to the true faith. By order of Governor Julian, he was captured and subjected to the most severe tortures. The saint was starved to death in a dungeon, and then stretched on stakes. According to legend, after that, the dry stakes, soaked in the blood of the saint, gave green shoots and grew into large trees, the leaves of which cured people of diseases.
Prayers on June 9th
On this day, believers turn to Saint Theodora and Hieromartyr Ferapont with prayers for spiritual support and help in difficult life situations. They also pray for protection from persecution and injustice. Their intercession is perceived as reliable support in trials.
