Before the summer holidays in Russia, fraudsters have become more active, creating fake websites of airlines and tour operators, as well as offering fictitious rental housing at low prices. This was announced on June 2 by State Duma deputy, coordinator of the Digital Russia project Anton Nemkin.

"One of the most common schemes today is the creation of fake websites for airlines, tour operators, and ticket sales services. Externally, such resources may practically not differ from the real ones. But the beautiful picture hides the only goal — to get the money and the victim's bank card details," he told RIA Novosti.

The MP explained that fake websites look almost indistinguishable from real ones: they use logos, photos, interface and reviews, creating the illusion of legitimacy. The purpose of the scammers is to obtain funds and bank card data. An equally popular scheme is the fictitious rental of apartments and houses by the sea at a suspiciously low price. The victim is offered to make an advance payment urgently, motivated by high demand, after which the ad disappears along with the fraudster.

Nemkin advised to be careful with offers that are noticeably cheaper than market prices, use trusted booking sites and never transfer money to strangers. Preparing for a vacation should include checking information about the website or the landlord to avoid losing money and spoiling your vacation. The MP stressed that scammers use the emotional background of vacations, when people are relaxed and less attentive, to lure them to attractive offers on tickets or travel packages.

On May 29, the Department for Combating the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies (UBK) of the Russian Interior Ministry reported that fraudulent call centers use fake Internet resources that outwardly copy official government portals. According to the agency, attackers use such sites to confirm the legend of a call allegedly from an official.
