Russia has approved a national standard for vehicle stability testing based on various tests. This is evidenced by the relevant Rosstandart document, which was reviewed by RIA Novosti on June 2.

The new GOST specifies test methods for passenger cars, trucks, and trailers. One of the key checks will be a stabilization test, during which experts assess the car's ability to return to straight-line movement after a maneuver. The vehicle is accelerated, the steering wheel is turned for a smooth turn, and then the steering wheel is released.

"The angle of rotation of the steering wheel after release should not increase. The steerable wheels and steering wheel must independently return to the neutral position," the document says.

The regulations also provide for other tests, including steering jerk and angular velocity drop tests. According to the requirements of the standard, the road section for such inspections should be perfectly flat, without depressions and protrusions.

Earlier, on January 5, Rosstandart stated that there was no talk of banning right-hand drive cars in Russia. They admitted that some changes may be made to the relevant GOST standards in 2026, which will make it more difficult to confirm the compliance of right-hand drive vehicles with the established requirements.
