The FSB uncovered a scheme by foreign intelligence agencies to install spyware on employees

The Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation has uncovered a large-scale scheme by foreign intelligence agencies to inject malicious software onto the mobile devices of high-ranking employees. This was announced on June 2 at the department's Public Relations Center.

It is noted that the objectives of the campaign were data collection, listening to negotiations, as well as conducting acoustic and video monitoring of the situation. To implement the scheme, the technical capabilities of large international IT corporations had to be used. Presumably, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada may be involved.

A criminal case has been opened into the incident under articles on unlawful access to computer information, as well as on the creation, use and distribution of malware.

In mid-April, FSB officers detained three people on suspicion of plotting an assassination attempt on a senior law enforcement official in Moscow. According to the agency, citizens of Ukraine, Moldova and Russia were detained. It was established that they were involved in the preparation of a terrorist attack, which was planned using a booby-trapped electric scooter.
