The Interior Ministry denied mass inspections of elderly drivers
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has denied information that appeared in a number of media and online resources about the alleged large-scale inspections of elderly drivers by traffic police officers since June 1. The official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Major General of Police Irina Volk, announced this in her Telegram channel.
"This news is not true. On the contrary, traffic police officers provide assistance to road users, including the elderly, who find themselves on the road in a difficult situation," she said.
Control over drivers of vehicles is conducted in accordance with the procedure for monitoring compliance by road users with the requirements of the legislation of the Russian Federation on road safety, approved by Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia dated May 02, 2023, No. 264, stressed Volk.
In Russia, it is planned to legislate the possibility for regions to use budgetary funds from road funds received from fines for traffic violations solely for the purpose of improving roads. As specified on May 27, funds collected from fines for traffic violations can be used for such tasks as the elimination of hazardous areas, improving traffic management and eliminating conditions that contributed to the occurrence of accidents.
