Chelyabinsk residents complained about the invasion of mosquitoes

A large number of mosquitoes are noted in the Chelyabinsk region. A local invasion of bloodsuckers has been recorded in Miass and Chebarkul district, where there are large reservoirs.

Vitaly Bezrukov, head of the Ecostandart Consulting expert bureau, told <url> that the situation will worsen this summer. This is evidenced by the current weather conditions and the prevailing natural factors of the past spring.

The ecologist explained that significant amounts of snow and a warm spring contributed to the appearance of a large number of mosquitoes. The snow cover protected the insect eggs from extremely low temperatures. Thanks to this, more females survived than in previous years.

Due to the melting of the snow, many swampy areas and flooded fields appeared. They have become a suitable environment for laying eggs and developing larvae. The process was accelerated by early warming and high temperatures. So, at temperatures up to + 25 degrees, the transformation of larvae into adults takes only a little more than a week. In cool weather, the process can take several weeks.

In the event that warm days and short rains continue to alternate, the number of mosquitoes will continue to grow until the beginning of August. If the heat sets in, the volume of mosquito swarms will decrease. However, they will not completely disappear, as some of the eggs remain dormant.

Earlier, Sergey Podkovalnikov, a biology and chemistry teacher and head of the Science is Closer than It Seems project, said that mosquitoes can gradually react worse to repellents because, like other insects, they are able to adapt to chemicals.
