The US Treasury Department announced Trump's readiness to achieve a deal with Iran
US President Donald Trump will achieve the implementation of a possible deal with Iran by both military and economic methods. This was announced on May 31 by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant.
According to the head of the US Treasury, Washington has sufficient tools to ensure the implementation of potential agreements with Tehran. He also expressed confidence that the Iranian leadership understands the willingness of the United States to use various pressure mechanisms.
"Therefore, if President Trump agrees to this deal, I would tell the Iranian leaders right now: he will achieve its implementation by both military and economic methods," he said on Fox News on the You Tube channel.
Bessent noted that one of the key indicators for the implementation of possible agreements will be freedom of navigation in the Persian Gulf and through the Strait of Hormuz. In addition, he called the absence of nuclear weapons in Iran and the transfer of highly enriched uranium under control important conditions.
"Because if 'bringing the matter to an end' means ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz is open, that we will withdraw highly enriched uranium and that Iran will not have nuclear weapons, then this is bringing the matter to an end," he stressed.
The minister also said that for the first time in several decades, the Iranian authorities have agreed to discuss the renunciation of nuclear weapons. In his opinion, military pressure, sanctions policy and actions of the Trump administration contributed to this.
Tasnim news agency reported on the same day that Iran intends to make its own amendments to the draft agreement on the settlement of differences with the United States.
On May 30, Trump reported that Iran, during negotiations with the United States, allegedly declared its readiness to abandon the creation and purchase of nuclear weapons. According to him, the Islamic Republic had previously promised not to develop its own weapons, but had not reported anything about a potential purchase.
On May 29, Iranian Foreign Minister Ismail Bagai announced the continuation of negotiations between Tehran and Washington and the absence of agreements between them. At the same time, his colleague from the Majlis Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, stressed on May 27 that representatives of his country's diplomatic staff did not intend to make decisions based on Trump's emotional publications.
