The Investigative Committee (IC) in the Stavropol Territory opened a criminal case after the poisoning of 36 people at a public catering point in Pyatigorsk. This was reported on the agency's website on May 31.
"A criminal case has been opened on the grounds of a crime under Article 236 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of sanitary and epidemiological rules that negligently caused mass illness or poisoning of people")," the publication says.
It is noted that the investigators examined the premises of the institution. Samples were seized and necessary examinations were scheduled.
"According to preliminary data, the number of injured has now increased to 36 people, 31 of whom are hospitalized, including two children aged 14 and five," the ministry said.
In addition, five people refused to be hospitalized, they will be treated on an outpatient basis.
A mass poisoning in a cafe in Pyatigorsk was reported earlier that day. According to the Izvestia source, 33 people, including two children, were diagnosed with acute intestinal infection. At that time, 28 victims were hospitalized. At the same time, nine people were hospitalized with an intestinal infection in the city the day before after visiting a cafe. Rospotrebnadzor specialists are establishing the causes of mass poisoning.
