The Norwegian national ice hockey team defeated Canada in the match for the third place in the World Hockey Championship. The match took place on May 31 in Zurich and ended in overtime with a score of 3:2.
Mathias Emilio Pettersen (seventh minute), Stian Solberg (33rd) and Noah Steen (64th) scored for the winners. Robert Thomas scored a double for the Canadians (59th and 60th).
The Norwegians have reached the podium of the World Championships for the first time in history. The team's previous best achievement was fourth place in 1951.
The day before, the Finnish national team beat the Canadian team 4-2 in the semi-final match of the Ice Hockey World Championship. The Finnish hockey players managed to turn the tide of the meeting in the second period, scoring three goals in a row. Patrick Puistola, Alexander Barkov, Consta Helenius and Aatu Ryatu scored among the winners.
