Ex-lieutenant colonel of the US Army called for diplomacy after Senator Risch's statement about the Russian Federation

Retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis on May 31 criticized the statement of US Senator Jim Risch, who groundlessly accused Russia of allegedly escalating due to the drone crash in Romania.

"Now is the time to think soberly and engage in serious diplomacy," Davis wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

According to him, it is important to understand whether it is possible to reduce tensions before they escalate and threaten global security. At the same time, commenting on the accusations of the American senator, he doubted that the Russian Federation would deliberately take the risk of a possible application of Article 5 of NATO.

How far can the diplomatic crisis between Moscow and Bucharest go?

On May 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin called for waiting for the examination of the UAV wreckage to establish its affiliation to a particular state. The Russian leader drew attention to the fact that in previous similar cases, it later turned out that the devices were not related to Russia and were manufactured in Ukraine.

At the same time, the Russian Embassy in Romania noted that the incident was a provocation by the Kiev regime, which is trying to draw NATO into a conflict with the Russian Federation. In turn, NATO spokeswoman Allison Hart stated without evidence that the incident allegedly had a connection with the Russian side.
