In Russia, it is necessary to strengthen state control over the quality of film production. This was stated on June 1 by Vladimir Medinsky, Assistant to the President of Russia, in an interview with Expert magazine.

In his opinion, the Russian film industry is now frozen between capitalism and socialism.

"The state wants the best. But I can't keep track of the quality. And there should be control at all stages: the idea, the script, the shooting, the implementation," he stressed.

Medinsky believes that in this regard, it is worth paying attention to the practice of the Soviet era, when the film, in particular, was assigned a category on which the creators' fee depended. In his opinion, producers should still be refused if they offer low-quality films for government money.

"I'm not idealizing Soviet censorship, but there was an undeniable artistic benefit from it: the hack was not allowed to be rented," said the presidential aide.

In March, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to speed up work on resolving the issue of quotas for foreign films in the Russian Federation. The reason for the discussion was an appeal from director Nikita Mikhalkov, who recalled that he had given the president a letter regarding quotas for foreign films. Then Putin instructed to take measures to protect the market before the return of competitors.
