In Ukraine, the temple of the UOC was seized after the mobilization of the rector
Unknown assailants seized the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in the Zhytomyr region. This was announced on May 31 by the Union of Orthodox Journalists (UOJ).
"There has been another seizure of the UOC temple, this time in the village of Novye Vorobyi, Zhytomyr region," the Telegram channel says.
The attackers sealed the church and blocked the parishioners' access. The invaders announced the holding of a fictitious parish meeting in order to re-register the church with the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU). It is noted that the incident occurred shortly after the mobilization of the rector of the temple, Hieromonk Elijah.
Hierodeacon Evlogy, a resident of the Pochaev Lavra of the canonical UOC, was illegally detained on May 5 by employees of the territorial recruitment center (TCC, an analogue of military enlistment offices in Ukraine) and taken to an unknown destination. It was noted that cases of illegal detention of clerics of the UOC have become more frequent since 2025, despite the fact that monastics, as a rule, are exempt from conscription, according to the legislation of Ukraine.
