NATO called national defense a matter not only for the military
Defense issues can no longer be called a matter exclusively for the army. This was announced on May 31 at the Shangri-La Dialogue Forum in Singapore by the head of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone.
"Defense is no longer just a military matter. We need everyone on board," he said at the event, a recording posted on the forum's YouTube channel.
According to him, not only military institutions, but also civilian ones should be integrated into defense. Both politicians and civil society should become sources of national security, not just recipients of it, Dragone said.
As an example, Dragone cited Sweden, where, according to him, the principle of "total defense" applies. In this state, the military sphere is closely intertwined with the civilian one, clarifies "Газета.Ru ".
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said on May 12 that the member countries of the alliance should increase the volume of defense industry in order to implement a policy of deterrence. He stressed that neither the European nor the American defense industrial complexes are yet able to produce enough weapons to cover the needs of Brussels and Washington.
On May 28, it became known from the federal budget data that the German authorities increased investments in state-owned companies by almost 54 times to prepare infrastructure for a possible military conflict in Europe. In addition, Germany has increased the cost of adapting highways and bridges for the transfer of military equipment by an average of four times — up to €36.5 million — compared with the plan for 2025.
