The Ministry of Health named the regions with the minimum number of smokers
The Chechen Republic, the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug and the Krasnodar Territory were among the top three Russian regions with the lowest proportion of smokers. On May 31, specialists from the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation came to such conclusions after analyzing data for April 2026.
According to the information provided by RIA Novosti, in Chechnya, the prevalence of tobacco smoking among citizens over the age of 18 was only 0.56%. In Chukotka, this figure reached 1.03%. The Krasnodar Territory closes the top three, where 4.26% of the adult population smokes.
In addition, the Republic of Ingushetia (6% of smokers), the Ivanovo Region (also 6%) and the Donetsk People's Republic (7.02%) were included in the list of subjects with a low level of tobacco consumption.
World No Tobacco Day is traditionally celebrated on May 31.
Alexander Dmitriev, Deputy Chief Physician of the Moscow Regional Clinical Narcological Dispensary, told on May 28 which techniques will help to quit smoking. So, he recommended that in case of difficulties, do not hesitate to seek help from doctors, starting with a visit to a narcologist, and stressed that treatment in public institutions is free of charge.
