The political scientist called the Ukrainian Armed Forces strike on the NPP an attempt to divert attention from corruption in Kiev.

The unprecedented strike by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the engine room of the Zaporizhia NPP unit is connected with Kiev's attempt to divert attention from corruption scandals in the country. Igor Semenovsky, a political scientist and associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia on May 30.

He recalled that the attacks on the nuclear power plant have been taking place for a long time, but previously the targets of the Ukrainian drones were the territory of the plant and its energy infrastructure. At the same time, an APU drone flew into the station itself, breaking through the wall, and later exploded in the engine room.

"It is clear that Ukraine is escalating from the moment when, relatively speaking, the collapse of the Ukrainian regime in connection with an internal scandal is approaching...> There is a distraction in various ways," said Semenovsky.

The political scientist also noted that the IAEA experts traditionally remain silent about the fact that drones and shells arrive from the Ukrainian side. According to him, after the attack on the station building, it will be especially important to monitor the reaction of the agency's representatives.

A new rotation of IAEA experts is also planned.

On the same day, the head of the Rosatom State Corporation, Alexei Likhachev, announced that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had attacked the hall of power unit No. 6 of the Zaporizhia NPP. According to him, the strike was targeted, as the drone was controlled using optical fiber.

There were no casualties or critical damage as a result of the attack. The ZAES representative Office sent a notification to the IAEA about the incident.

Yuri Chernichuk, director of the NPP, called the impact on the engine room of the power unit very serious. According to him, an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces could disable the entire station unit.
