Hungarian President again rejected Magyar's demand for resignation
Hungarian President Tamas Szuyok has again rejected the demand of the country's new prime Minister Peter Magyar to resign. This was announced on May 29 by the press service of the Sandor Palace.
"Calls for the removal of the head of state from office for political reasons that are not subject to interpretation in accordance with the basic law create an extremely contradictory situation in the existing constitutional order," reads a post on Facebook (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).
Shujok stated that the Hungarian constitution does not contain provisions on the incompetence or unworthiness of the head of state. According to him, such assessments are subjective and cannot serve as grounds for resignation. The President also said that he had asked the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe to provide a legal assessment of the situation and help resolve it.
On the same day, Magyar called on Shujok to resign by May 31 of this year. The Prime Minister added that if he refuses to leave office, the new government may try to get him removed.
