The Federation Council voiced demands to the negotiators on Ukraine
Russia is ready for negotiations on Ukraine, and at the same time, people who are respected in their country and in international institutions should take part in them. This was stated by Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Grigory Karasin on Friday, May 29.
"But the most important thing is that, firstly, not such odious personalities who have been publicly fomenting Russophobia over the past few years should take part in the negotiations and then sit down at the table with our representatives. There must be some acceptable, respected people in their country and in international institutions so that these negotiations are not an exercise in propaganda," the senator said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
The politician added that in Western Europe, those who have tainted themselves with outright Russophobia often speak out, so such negotiating partners are not suitable.
"We need to choose someone who thinks constructively, is capable of flexibility, and shows political will. We are waiting for such. Our negotiating team is ready and ready for a serious dialogue," he concluded.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on May 29 that Europe could not mediate in negotiations on a settlement in Ukraine, as it was itself one of the parties to the conflict.
He also stressed that peace in Ukraine would come faster if all countries refused to supply weapons to Kiev.
The day before, Peskov said that the European Union (EU) has no initiative to negotiate with Moscow. He noted that despite the search for possible negotiators, no real steps are being taken by the EU towards dialogue with Russia.
