Childhood and education

The future artist was born on December 24, 1981 in the city of Ust-Dzheguta, Stavropol Territory (currently the Karachay—Cherkess Republic). At birth, he was named Viktor Nikolaevich Belan. Later, in June 2008, the performer officially changed his name in the documents to Dima Nikolaevich Bilan.

The artist received his professional musical education in Moscow. In 2003, he graduated from the Gnessin State Music College. The training took place in the specialty "academic vocal".

Early career

The singer took his first steps on the professional stage in the early 2000s. His first producer was Elena Kan, who in 2000 financed the filming of the debut video clip for the song "Autumn".

Since 2002, the artist has been collaborating with music manager Yuri Aizenshpis. Under his leadership, the artist became widely known and released his first successful albums. The collaboration continued until September 2005, when Yuri Aizenshpis passed away.

Creative path and success at Eurovision

After the death of his first mentor, Yana Rudkovskaya became the artist's new producer. During this period, the singer's career reached an international level. In 2006, he represented Russia for the first time at the Eurovision Song Contest in Athens with the song "Never Let You Go", taking second place.

The year 2008 was a triumph for the performer. Dima Bilan performed the song "Believe" at the Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade. Figure skater Evgeny Plushenko and violinist Edwin Marton also took part in the number. According to the results of the voting, the artist took the first place, bringing Russia the first victory in the history of the competition.

Titles and awards

Dima Bilan has been awarded a number of state awards and honorary titles for his contribution to the development of musical art. In 2018, he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation.

The singer is also a People's Artist of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (2008), Honored Artist of the Chechen Republic (2007) and Honored Artist of the Republic of Ingushetia.

Personal life

Bilan is not married, he has no children. He dated model Elena Kuletskaya, who starred in his music video "It was Love," and ex-member of t.A.T.u. Yulia Volkova.
