The first racket of Russia, 19-year-old Mirra Andreeva, reached the fourth round of the French Open Tennis Championship Roland Garros, held on the clay courts of Paris, on May 29.
In the third round match, Andreeva, seeded eighth, beat the Czech Republic's 27-year-old Maria Bouzkova, seeded 27th. The match ended with a score of 6:4 and 6:2 in favor of the Russian tennis player and lasted a total of 1 hour and 35 minutes.
Thanks to this result, Andreeva became the youngest athlete to reach the fourth round of Grand Slam tournaments for three consecutive seasons. Previously, Swiss Martina Hingis showed a similar result. She set a record during 1997-1999.
In the next round of the competition, the winner will face the 10th racket of the world, 28-year-old Swiss Gilles Teichmann, who on the same day defeated the Czech tennis player, 29-year-old Karolina Mukhova, with scores of 1:6 and 5:7.
Andreeva and another Russian tennis player Diana Schneider won the WTA 1000 doubles tournament in Rome on May 17. Then they defeated Spain's Cristina Buccia and American Nicole Melicar-Martinez in 1 hour and 10 minutes with a score of 6:3, 6:3.
