Thai Foreign Ministry denies reports of alleged mass deportation of Russians
Information about the alleged mass deportation of Russian citizens from Thailand is not true. This was reported on May 29 in the kingdom's Foreign Ministry, commenting on media publications.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand would like to clarify that reports of any kind of "mass deportation" or forced expulsion of Russian citizens from Thailand are unfounded and untrue," the ministry told TASS.
The Thai Foreign Ministry stressed that the country continues to receive foreign tourists, including Russian citizens, in accordance with current legislation and without any discrimination. At the same time, the authorities of the kingdom indicated that control over compliance with the law is carried out in relation to all persons on an equal basis, regardless of nationality.
The Khaosod newspaper reported on May 19 that the Thai authorities decided to reduce the 60-day visa-free regime for citizens of more than 90 countries and return to the rules of entry for stays of up to 30 days. The relevant decision was made by the Cabinet of Ministers of Thailand.
Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeu said on May 12 that the authorities intend to strengthen immigration control and reduce the period of visa-free stay of foreign tourists to 30 days. Checks on incoming foreigners will also be strengthened to ensure that the purpose of the trip meets the conditions of the visas issued.
