On Friday and the last weekend of May, the State Traffic Inspectorate will conduct massive and continuous checks of drivers, special attention will be paid to the search for drunk motorists. The upcoming raids were announced on May 29 by the regional departments of the department.

Traffic inspectors will work in an enhanced mode and will carry out preventive measures on the roads of the Ivanovo, Ulyanovsk, Kirov regions, as well as in the Republic of Tatarstan and other regions of the country. On the eve of the weekend, the traffic police reminded drivers about the inadmissibility of driving while intoxicated.

"Driving under the influence of alcohol is unacceptable and endangers the lives of not only the driver himself, who got behind the wheel after drinking alcohol, but also his passengers, as well as other road users. Do not remain indifferent when you see that a drunk person gets behind the wheel of a car or motorcycle, behaves inappropriately, creates dangerous situations on the road — report this to the police. Employees of the State Traffic Inspectorate will definitely take all necessary measures to respond to such reports," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The traffic police recalled that driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as refusing a medical examination, entail the deprivation of a driver's license for a period of one and a half to two years and a heavy fine. In addition, in some cases, the driver faces criminal liability.

On May 21, the Russian government approved an action plan for the implementation of a Strategy to improve road safety for the period up to 2030 and for the future up to 2036. The plan contains more than 260 events. The main goal of the strategy is to reduce road deaths by one and a half times by 2030 and twice by 2036 (compared to the level of 2023).
