- Bloomberg pointed to the strategic failure of the United States in the conflict with Iran
The conflict with Iran has led the United States to strategic losses and forced Washington to discuss an agreement that is inferior to both the 2015 nuclear deal and possible agreements before the outbreak of hostilities. This was reported by Bloomberg on May 29.
"No matter how triumphantly the White House presents any deal, officials should not perceive it as anything other than a strategic failure. The war, launched without a clear strategy or realistic plan of action, led to the emergence of a tougher regime in Tehran," the article says.
It is noted that the parties are close to signing a memorandum on the cessation of hostilities in the Persian Gulf. The agreement provides for limiting uranium enrichment, restoring access to international inspectors, and exporting or reprocessing uranium stocks close to weapons-grade levels.
The publication emphasizes that Iran has retained the ability to "strangle the global economy," while the United States will need years to replenish its stocks of long-range missiles and interception systems after almost three months of operations in the region.
Political analyst Dmitry Bridge noted on that day that reports of a possible 60-day memorandum between the United States and Iran should be considered not as a full-fledged peace agreement, but as an attempt at temporary de-escalation around the security of the Strait of Hormuz and negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program.
At the same time, on May 28, US Vice President Jay Dee Vance announced progress in negotiations with Iran and noted that, in his assessment, Tehran is conducting a dialogue with Washington in good faith. However, Vance noted that the terms of the deal have not yet been agreed.
