Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico called for the immediate start of a dialogue between the European Union (EU) and the Russian Federation. The head of government made the corresponding statement on May 29 against the background of the incident with an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in Romania.

"A few days ago, I stated that in the absence of a dialogue between the European Union and the Russian Federation, any drone that goes off course can lead to an escalation of tension that we may not be able to handle," he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

He called on the parties to any incidents related to the conflict in Ukraine to exercise restraint and avoid inflammatory statements.

"I urge the immediate opening of a dialogue between the European Union and the Russian Federation," the Slovak Prime Minister said.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on May 21 that the Russian side had never refused to engage in dialogue with the EU. According to her, Russia has repeatedly confirmed at the highest level its readiness to resolve differences with Western countries through diplomatic methods.
