There have been 281 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.
Over the past day, 281 accidents have occurred on Russian roads, killing 18 and injuring 322 people. 14 of the dead were passengers and drivers. This was reported to Izvestia on May 29 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
20 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which there were no fatalities, however, 23 road users, including three children, required medical assistance. 11 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.
So, in Kazan in the morning, a 30-year-old driver of a city shuttle bus with 15 passengers in the cabin collided with a crossover moving in front of him in the same direction, driven by a 64-year-old motorist. After that, the first bus collided with the second, which was also traveling along the city route and carrying 30 passengers. As a result of the accident, one of the passengers on the second bus was hospitalized with injuries, and another passenger on the second bus, a 10-year-old boy, was sent for outpatient treatment after receiving medical attention. Eight more passengers on the same bus, including children born in 2021 and 2025, received one-time medical care.
As a result of 66 accidents, 22 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 44 outside their area of operation, four pedestrians were killed, and 64 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 18 child pedestrians, 13 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway outside pedestrian crossings.
63 accidents involving minors were also registered, as a result of which 74 road users of this category were injured, including 34 young passengers, one cyclist and nine motor transport drivers. Two children were killed: a girl pedestrian and a boy passenger in a car.
In the Moscow region, during the daytime, on 5 km of the Pikino — Poyarkovo—Myshetskoye regional highway, a 64-year-old minibus driver ran over an 11-year-old schoolgirl who suddenly ran into the roadway in front of him because a regular bus stopped at a public transport stop, on which, returning from school, she arrived with an unaccompanied friend. She ran across the road outside the pedestrian crossing area, even though it was only two meters from the hit-and-run site.
In the Republic of Tatarstan, late in the evening, on 50 km of the Chistopol—Nizhnekamsk regional highway, a 50-year-old passenger car driver drove into the oncoming lane at an authorized place, where he collided with a crossover. The accident killed the culprit of the collision, as well as his six-year-old passenger, who was transported in the back seat without a child restraint and was not wearing a seat belt. Three more minor passengers from the same car, aged 9, 14 and 16, were hospitalized with injuries of varying severity.
On the eve of the last weekend of spring and the beginning of the long school holidays, the State Traffic Inspectorate draws the attention of parents to the need to ensure the maximum safety of their children in the summer, a period when schoolchildren who are resting from classes spend a lot of free time outside, and, as a result, more often get into car accidents. Lack of control over children's behavior and leisure activities, especially in the evening, often leads to injury or even death of young road users.
Parents were urged to strictly monitor and prevent, rather than encourage, attempts by children and teenagers without experience, confident driving skills and solid knowledge of traffic rules to use bicycles, scooters and personal mobility aids, and even more so to ride them on public roads until young drivers reach the age of 14. In conversations with children, attention should be focused on the need for mandatory dismounting before crossing the roadway at a pedestrian crossing, so as not to provoke an accident involving pedestrians or other vehicles, the department noted.
"We also draw the attention of drivers to the strict observance of the rules for transporting children in the car. Do not make dangerous maneuvers, choose the speed limit depending on the time of day, the condition of the roadway and weather conditions. Always remember that the lives and health of young road users depend entirely on you, the adults. In addition, the State Traffic Inspectorate urges motorists to abandon risky driving habits, exceeding the permitted speed limit, sudden changes of lanes, overtaking and other dangerous maneuvers. Always leave yourself plenty of time to react adequately to a possible change in the traffic situation at any moment," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
Earlier that day, it was reported that in the updated version of the draft law on the purchase of "beautiful" license plates for vehicles, it is planned to supplement the law "On State Registration of vehicles" with a new article. According to it, motorists will be able to reserve two types of signs — unique and individual.
