The CIS Secretary General announced Moldova's desire to remain a party to more than 100 treaties.

Moldova has sent a note to the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) on its withdrawal from the main association agreements, but is going to remain a party to more than 100 economic treaties. This was announced to Izvestia on May 29 by CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev.

According to him, the exit procedure will take a whole year. During this time, a special group will analyze over 200 agreements in which Chisinau participates.

"Moldova has expressed a desire to remain in some agreements. In the economic sphere, these are 102 agreements," Lebedev said in a conversation with Izvestia columnist Viktor Sineok.

The CIS Secretary General added that a special group has already been established, and the analysis of Chisinau's agreements with the CIS has begun.

Lebedev announced on May 26 that the procedure for Moldova's withdrawal from the CIS had already been launched — the republic had sent a corresponding statement to the executive committee of the association. Lebedev added that at the same time, Chisinau expressed a desire to continue economic cooperation with the CIS.

On May 15, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Moldova's withdrawal from the Commonwealth would have negative consequences for the citizens of the republic. It was noted that the agency conducted an inventory of international treaties and decisions of bodies in which Chisinau participates.
