Sales of new Toyota vehicles increased by 70% in Russia
In Russia, 2,789 new Toyota vehicles were registered in April, which is 70% more than in April last year. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, told about this in his Telegram channel on May 29.
As the expert explained, such results are explained by the low base of last year and a significant increase in alternative imports. More than 90% of Toyota vehicles enter the country from the Chinese car market.
At the same time, global sales of Toyota cars, according to GlobalData Automotive, decreased by 3.1% year-on-year in April and amounted to 849.3 thousand vehicles. In Japan, there was an increase of 24.2% (to 149.9 thousand units), sales abroad decreased by 7.5% (to 699.4 thousand units).
It is noted that the largest decrease in Toyota sales was noted in China (-25.4%, to 106.5 thousand units) and in the Middle East (-33.7%, to 31 thousand units). The analyst explained that the Chinese market has been declining significantly for the fourth month in a row due to government support cuts, and the Middle East market has been hit by military action.
The largest market for Toyota remains the United States, where sales in the middle of spring decreased by 4.6% and amounted to 222.4 thousand units. Toyota explains the decrease with the introduction of new tariffs last year, as well as the transition to a completely new RAV4.
The day before, it was reported that the highest negative dynamics of car sales among the brands that are officially represented on the Russian market this year was recorded by the Ora and Kaiyi brands. So, sales of Ora decreased by 97% this year, and Kaiyi — by 96%. The SWM brand is in third place in the rating (-92%).
