Scientists will study the behavior of humpback whales in Teriberka
An expedition dedicated to the study of humpback whales has started in Teriberka (Murmansk region). Scientists will collect data on mammals during foraging.
Experts intend to carry out photo identification of individuals and find out how they move and how often they use the water area. Biopsy sampling is also planned. This is reported by the Bi-port news agency. In addition, the scientific team is interested in the influence of tourists on the behavior of whales.
So far, there are few humpback whales off the coast. Porpoises and seals are actively being fed.
Earlier, scientists discovered traces of the giant squid Architeuthis dux off the coast of Western Australia. They were detected in samples from two canyons about 1.2 thousand km north of Perth.
