A foreign citizen has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for conducting activities to prepare a terrorist act at a railway infrastructure facility in Yessentuki. This was reported on May 28 on the website of the Prosecutor's office of the Stavropol Territory.

"It was established that in January 2025, the defendant, being a supporter of radical views, acting on instructions from an unidentified member of a terrorist organization, planned to carry out an explosion at a railway infrastructure facility in the city of Yessentuki," the text says.

The criminal managed to purchase components for the manufacture of a potential improvised explosive device (IED) and stored them at his home. Such activity was detected and suppressed by representatives of the Office of the Federal Security Service (UFSB) of the Russian Federation in the Stavropol Territory.

A number of criminal cases have been initiated against the attacker in accordance with Part 1 of Article 30, paragraph "b" of Part 3 of Article 205 ("Terrorist act"), part 2 of Article 205.5 ("Participation in the activities of an organization that is recognized as terrorist in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation"), part 1 of Article 30, Part 3 223.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal manufacture of explosives").

Of this period, he will spend five years in prison, and the rest in a penal colony. The man was also fined 500 thousand rubles.

On May 13, the Second Western District Military Court sentenced 53-year-old man Eduard Voronov, who was preparing a terrorist attack in Moscow.
