The response of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk to the attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the college in Starobilsk of the Luhansk People's Republic (LNR) is a good sign, even if his statement is unlikely to have an impact on the position of the Europeans. This was announced on May 28 by the head of the Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights (HRC). Valery Fadeev.

"Today's UN reaction is a good sign. But it's unlikely to have any impact now, in the short term. It is unlikely that this will have any impact on the position of the European Union and European countries," Fadeev said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

He noted that such crimes should not be overlooked and stressed that the memory of the children killed in Starobilsk should force them to act.

On the same day, Turk called for a prompt investigation into the attack on the college in Starobilsk and expressed regret over the deaths and injuries of civilians. He noted that the requirements of international humanitarian law are binding on all parties to the conflict and provide for legal responsibility.

The Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, Yana Lantratova, in turn, said that Turk's call to investigate the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacks on Starobilsk and bring those responsible to justice is fundamentally important. She said she welcomed the High Commissioner's words, adding that immediately after the tragedy, she publicly appealed to the international community and asked the UN to objectively assess what had happened and facilitate the investigation.
