The bill on "beautiful" rooms has been submitted to the State Duma again

A bill providing for the possibility of buying "beautiful" state registration plates for a car has been submitted to the State Duma again. It was finalized based on comments from the Government and the Committee on Transport and Transport Infrastructure Development. Pavel Fedyaev, First Deputy Chairman of the committee, announced this on May 28 in his Telegram channel.

"This is a new edition — more detailed, thoughtful, conscious, if I may say so," Fedyaev said at a meeting of the transport committee.

The bill on "beautiful" rooms returned for revision in mid-April. As the deputy chairman of the Transport Committee noted at the time, there were many issues with the document that it did not regulate in any way. In particular, it is unclear from the text which number will be considered "beautiful", how the reservation will be paid for and where the money will go, as well as by whom it will be administered.

The bill was supposed to supplement the law "On State Registration of Vehicles" with a new article so that motorists could reserve a certain license plate number from the available ones for a fee through the Gosuslugi portal. According to the authors of the amendments, now, as a result of the shadow market of "beautiful" license plates, car owners receive services outside the legal framework, and the state does not receive any budget revenue from these transactions.
