Border Guard Day has been celebrated in Russia since 1918. Then, on May 28, a decree of the Council of People's Commissars was signed on the establishment of the Main Directorate of the Border Guard of the RSFSR, and later the service was named the border troops.
On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the personnel, civilian personnel and veterans of the border guard service of the FSB of the Russian Federation on Border Guard Day. He noted the rich history of the Russian border guard service. Separately, the President noted the importance of the border guard service during the Great Patriotic War.
