Analysts have recorded a sharp increase in demand for country goods in May
In May, Russians significantly increased their activity in suburban areas: Demand for plant care products increased by 59% in the first half of the month compared to April. These are the conclusions reached by the analysts of the Megamarket. The most popular categories were soil, fertilizers, greenhouse accessories, and soil improvement products. Izvestia got acquainted with the research data on May 30.
Experts noted the growing interest in more technological solutions for cottages. Thus, Russians bought automatic openers for greenhouses six times more often than a month earlier. Sales of garden equipment increased by 63%, while demand for high-pressure washers increased by 77%. In addition, trimmers and lawn mowers were purchased twice as often as in April.
In parallel with the work on the site, the Russians were actively engaged in the development of recreation areas. The most popular products included acacia deck chairs, garden furniture sets, mosquito net awnings and garden swings. Sales of related products also increased significantly: barbecues were bought more than twice as often, thermos bags and accessories for swimming pools — three times as often, and insect repellents — six times.
Preparations for the summer holiday season began back in April. At that time, sales of gardening equipment — shovels, wheelbarrows and rakes — increased by 35.6% compared to March. After cleaning the plots, the Russians switched to landscaping: The demand for decorative fences, borders, flower beds and flower beds tripled in April.
Experts also noted a change in consumer behavior. Buyers are increasingly choosing complex scenarios for cottages: along with irrigation products, they order planters, flower pots and planting products, and they purchase tillage products at the same time as water tanks and garden tools. In the technology segment, several devices in one order are popular at once — for example, battery pruners along with chain saws.
The most active buyers of cottage goods this season were residents of Moscow and the Moscow region, as well as the Voronezh, Nizhny Novgorod, Sverdlovsk regions and the Krasnodar Territory.
Andrey Tumanov, chairman of the Moscow Horticultural Union, said that work at the cottage in May should begin with soil cultivation. He urged not to whitewash trees, not to burn bonfires and not to overwork. The expert added that possible frosts in May do not pose a serious threat to planting, so you can start planting potatoes and tomatoes.
