Peskov called Armenia's withdrawal from the EAEU possible if the integration course is changed

Armenia remains in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) — a decision to withdraw from the union may be required in the future if orientation towards other forms of integration begins to interfere. On May 27, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said this in an interview with Izvestia columnist Viktor Sineok.

"Armenia remains united, but at the moment when, let's say, orientation towards other forms of integration will interfere with participation in this association, then a decision by the people will be required," Peskov said.

He also recalled that during the meeting in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that sooner or later the country would be forced to make a choice.

On the same day, Pashinyan announced that the decision on Armenia's further membership in the EAEU or accession to the European Union (EU) would be made by the citizens of the country. He noted that his key task is to ensure the possibility of choice for the population.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk, in turn, said that Armenia has no plans to withdraw from the EAEU, as the republic's leadership is aware of the benefits of participating in the association. He explained that the current figures of trade turnover have become possible due to the regimes in force in the union.
