- The PCT announced a decrease in demand for summer travel in Russia for the first time in two years
Interest in tours in Russia for the upcoming summer season decreased by 4.8% compared to 2025, so after the saturation of the market and the strengthening of the ruble, foreign destinations have become more attractive for travel. This was announced on May 27 by Ilya Umansky, President of the Russian Union of Travel Industry (PCT).
He noted that such a correction occurred after the saturation point of the market in the tourism industry. In 2024, the demand for domestic tourism increased by more than 15%, and last year ended in the range of 5%.
"The demand for tours for the upcoming summer season is decreasing by 4.8%. At the same time, on the same dates last year, relative to 2024, domestic tourism showed an increase of 9.8% <...>. These data should be treated calmly, because in a sense this is a natural correction after several years of fairly rapid growth," TASS quoted him as saying at a press conference.
He pointed out that the foreign offer is becoming more attractive due to the strengthened ruble — it is becoming, among other things, more affordable than before.
As it became known on May 15 from the analysis of the online booking service "Daily.<url>", the most popular destinations for traveling by car in the coming summer were Moscow, Kazan, St. Petersburg and Krasnodar Krai. Yaroslavl, Nizhny Novgorod, Vladimir, Pskov, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karelia and Belarus also entered the top 10. The company noted that the share of tourists planning trips by car increased by 30% over the year.
