- Uralvagonzavod assessed the effectiveness of the T-90M "Breakthrough" tank in its combat zone.
The main battle tank of the Russian Armed Forces (AF) T-90M "Breakthrough" is successfully proving itself during a special military operation (SVO) and will be able to serve for at least several more decades. This was announced on May 27 by Andrey Terlikov, General Designer of Uralvagonzavod, in an interview with TASS.
According to him, the tank was created in the 1990s, and its service life is at least 50 years. Terlikov noted that, according to the estimates of the Russian military using the T-90M in its combat zone, the machine demonstrates high efficiency in performing combat missions.
The designer added that the T-90M is constantly being upgraded to improve its tactical and technical characteristics, primarily its security. In particular, an all-angle fire protection system has been created for the tank, designed, among other things, to counter drones.
Terlikov also said that the tanks of NATO countries, including Abrams and Leopard, used by Ukraine, have a number of disadvantages. Among them, he named a large mass, poor maneuverability, insufficient maneuverability and protection. The T-90M is superior to these samples. In addition, Uralvagonzavod is working on the creation of a next-generation tank using new technologies.
In early May, materials for the meeting of Rostec CEO Sergei Chemezov with Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the Russian T-90M, T-72B3M and T-80BVM tanks can be considered the best production tanks in the world. It was emphasized that these models are maximally adapted to modern combat conditions.
