The expert spoke about millennials' jewelry preferences

In Russia, millennials are increasingly choosing jewelry not for a special occasion, but for everyday life, paying attention to comfort, durability, personal meaning and the rational cost of products. Tatiana Sergeeva, stylist of the Sunlight jewelry brand, told Izvestia about this on May 27.

According to her, the modern jewelry wardrobe of millennials is formed around basic products for every day and accent jewelry that can be worn without being tied to a solemn occasion. This approach is based on the rejection of spontaneous purchases for the sake of impression and the transition to a more informed choice.

"They not only collect status items, but also appreciate daily comfort, quality that will stand the test of time, personal meaning and "reasonable luxury" — when a thing looks expensive but does not require a special reason," said Sergeeva.

She stressed that laboratory diamonds have become one of the notable trends. Previously, diamonds were more often perceived as jewelry for going out, but now millennials are increasingly including them in everyday images.

What is the reason and will this trend continue?

Natural stones retain their investment value, but grown diamonds have become a more affordable alternative: they are visually almost indistinguishable from natural ones and allow you to choose a large accent stone without excessive expenses. Against this background, several rings on one hand, tracks, fancy cuts and a concise design with one expressive element are gaining popularity.

Silver has also strengthened its position in the millennials' jewelry wardrobe. It is chosen both for every day and for exits, without being perceived as a substitute for lower-level gold. For everyday looks, choose chains, bracelets, thin rings with one stone, stud earrings, congo earrings and slider rings. For more noticeable looks, large silver pieces with cubic zirconia, long earrings, models with full stones and rings with a large stone on a thin rim are popular.

As Sergeeva noted, gold remains a "base" for millennials, but more often in a concise version. Among the sought—after products are thin rings, minimalist earrings, congo earrings, basic chains and bracelets. The color of the metal has no strict restrictions: choose yellow, white, rose gold, as well as two-color options. A separate place is occupied by small pendants with personal meaning — letters, hearts, clover or zodiac signs.

A dermatologist, cosmetologist, and co-owner of a network of clinics, Dr. Zarema Omarova, told Izvestia on February 27 that low-quality jewelry can cause allergic reactions and skin irritations, especially if it contains alloys such as nickel, cobalt, or chromium. The most significant allergen is nickel, whose ions can penetrate into the upper layers of the skin and cause inflammation.
