The average amount of car loans in Russia has increased by almost 18 over the year.%

In April 2026, the average amount of car loans issued in Russia reached 1.48 million rubles, an increase of 17.6% from 1.26 million rubles compared to the same period last year. This was announced on May 27 by the National Bureau of Credit Histories (NBKI). In March, the average car loan amount was 1.52 million rubles, in April it decreased by 2.2% per month.

The largest average car loan size among the regions was recorded in Moscow (2.05 million rubles), the Moscow region (1.82 million rubles) and St. Petersburg (1.74 million rubles). The largest year-on-year growth was shown by Moscow (+22%), St. Petersburg (+20.8%) and the Rostov Region (+20.6%). The lowest annual growth rate was in the Irkutsk (+8.9%) and Samara (+9.5%) regions, as well as in the Krasnoyarsk Territory (+10.2%).

The NBKI explained that the average car loan size has stabilized at about 1.5 million rubles since September last year. Banks show a low appetite for risk, and demand for car loans is low due to increased recycling, high interest rates, and a general increase in car prices, the bureau noted.

According to the NBKI, the number of car loans issued for new and used cars in April amounted to 84.3 thousand units, having decreased by 9.5% compared to the previous month. The indicator grew by 1.8% year-on-year. The share of refusals for car loan applications in the middle of spring was 76.1%, having decreased by 8.1 percentage points (percentage points) compared to the same period last year, and by 1.7 percentage points compared to the previous month. This indicator has been decreasing for the third month in a row.
