- Rospotrebnadzor tightened control at the Russian border due to the outbreak of Ebola in Africa
Rospotrebnadzor announced the strengthening of sanitary and quarantine control at checkpoints on the Russian state border in connection with the outbreak of Ebola in Africa. This was reported on May 27 on the website of the press service of the department.
"Sanitary and quarantine control over the health status of citizens arriving from regions with an increased risk of infection has been strengthened at checkpoints on the state border of the Russian Federation," the report says.
Rospotrebnadzor noted that the risks of infection being imported into Russia are assessed as low, and no imported cases of the disease have been registered in the country at the moment. It is also specified that control measures have been strengthened within the framework of the epidemiological safety system.
According to the agency, the situation is being monitored, and an automated "Perimeter" system is being used to assess risks at border crossings. Additional health monitoring is carried out at the checkpoints for arrivals from regions with increased epidemiological risk.
In addition, Rospotrebnadzor reported on international cooperation with African countries and the availability of research centers and mobile laboratories operating in the region.
The agency stressed that a comprehensive sanitary protection system is in place in Russia, aimed at preventing the importation of particularly dangerous infections. The situation is under the control of Rospotrebnadzor.
On May 17, the press service of Rospotrebnadzor noted that there is currently no risk of Ebola spreading in Russia. As part of the federal Sanitary Shield project, enhanced sanitary and quarantine control is in effect at all checkpoints, and an automated Perimeter system is used to assess risks.
