Britain and Poland to sign security and defense agreement
The UK and France will sign a new defense and security agreement. This became known on May 27 from a statement posted on the British government's website.
"The United Kingdom is preparing to sign a new defense and security treaty with Poland to protect Britain's borders, combat organized crime, strengthen collective defense and deepen cooperation with the European Union (EU)," the statement said.
The report notes that the parties should conclude an agreement following a meeting between British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. In addition, the document is a continuation of similar agreements between Great Britain, France and Germany.
The parties will discuss the growing threats in Europe, which include cyber attacks, espionage and sabotage. It is added that the defense part provides for cooperation in the development of weapons, including ammunition for air defense systems and the production of medium-range missiles.
On May 2, Starmer said that the UK needs to work more closely with the European Union (EU) against the backdrop of global instability. He noted that the world has entered a period of serious upheaval, including the conflict in Iran and the ongoing situation in Ukraine, which has an impact on the country's economy.
The Guardian newspaper reported on April 29 that the head of the British Royal Navy, Gwyn Jenkins, announced plans to create a joint naval force (Navy) with nine states and deploy them in northern Europe to respond to alleged threats from Russia.
