The expert listed the signs of a problematic used crossover
When buying a crossover in the secondary market of Russia, it is worth considering a number of factors that may turn into problems for the new owner. They are related to the availability of spare parts, the quality of previous service, the complexity of electronics, the liquidity and clarity of further operation. Roman Titov, Deputy General Director for Used Cars at Avilon Group, warned about this on May 26.
The specialist named rare Chinese brand crossovers as the first risk group, which did not receive a stable scale and a normal service infrastructure in Russia. The second is the age—old American crossovers of brands that have long since left the passenger segment. Problems can also be caused by brand cars that no longer have a full-fledged official presence in the Russian Federation.
In addition, the risk groups included complex premium SUVs older than seven or eight years (where a low entry price then turns into expensive operation), as well as crossovers with an unknown operational history, multiple owners, questionable mileage and traces of serious body repairs.
"If I were to name examples by risk group, I would look especially cautiously at rare Chinese models from previous years, such as individual Zotye and Lifan, age-related Ford Kuga and Ford EcoSport, individual Honda with an opaque history, as well as older British premium crossovers, where the cost of ownership often surprises unpleasantly after purchase," — the Rossiyskaya Gazeta quotes Titov as saying.
As reported on May 21, Russians purchased 542.2 thousand used passenger cars in April, which is 14.1% more than in March 2026 and 6.4% higher than in April last year. The Lada 2107 sedan became the most popular model among used passenger cars in Russia in the middle of spring.
