Experts have warned about the dangers of accelerated development of children
Experts spoke about the risks of early childhood education and signs of mental readiness for stress. All the details are in the Izvestia article.
When to start studying
Between the ages of two and five, a child's brain actively absorbs speech, but this does not mean that they are ready for the school format of lessons. During this period, children perceive intonation, rhythm, and emotional meaning well, but the ability to relate sounds to letters is formed much later.
Olga Kushnareva, a family psychologist and psychotherapist, noted that it is important not to confuse speech development and learning to read. According to her, demanding results from children at the age of two or three is often meaningless and causes the opposite effect, so at an early age it is more effective to just talk to the child, read aloud to him and play with words.
"The child begins to perceive speech, intonation, rhythm of language and the content of what is read aloud very early indeed. Moreover, reading books by adults to children from the first years of life is considered one of the most important factors of speech and emotional development," Olga Kushnareva said.
Consequences of forced development
The problem of early learning of foreign languages and reading arises when adults try to accelerate development and require overwhelming tasks from the child's nervous system. If children are forced to memorize flashcards and read syllables against their will, this leads to overload.
Maria Todorova, a consultant on child development, emphasized that playing with the language is considered safe, but the transfer of the school learning model to preschoolers is an alarming signal. As a result, the child may develop not a love of knowledge, but tension, resistance, and sleep disorders.
"Modern pedagogy is considered an alarming signal of a situation when learning begins to outpace the capabilities of the child's nervous system. It is important for parents to pay attention not only to their formal successes, but also to their emotional state," said Maria Todorova.
Signs of readiness to study
Willingness to learn is determined not by age, but by the child's behavior. The signals are interest in letters and signs, the ability to hold attention, the ability to hear sounds in words and retell the general meaning of the text. Phonemic hearing, which is necessary for reading, usually matures only by the age of five or six.
For preschoolers, the main way to explore the world remains through play. Instead of academic classes, experts recommend looking for letters on product packages, singing songs in foreign languages, and reading fairy tales based on roles. The main task of parents remains to preserve the child's curiosity and interest in books without undue pressure.
