GAZ Group unveils promising modular LCV platform

At the Comvex 2026 exhibition in Moscow, GAZ Group presented a promising modular low-tonnage platform for light commercial vehicles (LCVs), a correspondent of Izvestia reported from the scene on May 26.

Skateboard, a platform developed by a domestic automaker, allows the installation of any type of engine — traditional gasoline or diesel, gas, as well as electric motors and hybrid power plants.

Due to the modular design, the future LCV car can be equipped with front, rear or all-wheel drive, as well as with various suspension options. The platform with a loading height of 60 cm and a clearance of 18 cm allows the installation of any type of body, including two sliding doors on the sides.

The fuel tank, gas cylinders or traction accumulators are located under the floor in the wheelbase. According to the company's representatives, the design of the modular platform allows you to place batteries or gas cylinders, which will provide the car with a power reserve three times more than traditional models with a frame.

The exhibition presents the platform in its maximum design — with two electric motors, independent front and rear suspensions, and a rear thruster in addition — the angle of rotation of the rear wheels is 9 °. It is not yet specified when a new LCV model will be created based on the presented platform.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that AvtoVAZ's SKM brand line will soon be replenished with the new M9 model. It is planned to be produced at production sites in Nizhny Novgorod and Tolyatti. The model will be presented in four versions: seven- and eight-seater minivans, a nine-seater minibus and a van.
