The FSB warned of increased terrorist risks in the CIS countries
Threats to the CIS countries are increasing in several directions at once, including international terrorism, instability in the Middle East and the intensification of foreign intelligence services. This was announced on May 26 by FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov at the 58th meeting of the Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services of the CIS countries (SORB).
"It is obvious that our common security will depend on the calm in the Afghan-Pakistani region," Bortnikov said.
The head of the FSB paid special attention to the activities of the Vilayat Khorasan branch of the Islamic State (a terrorist organization banned in Russia), which, according to him, actively recruits supporters among migrant workers.
Bortnikov said that Russian special services, together with colleagues from Tajikistan, had neutralized a terrorist cell that was preparing high-profile terrorist attacks. In addition, five terrorist attacks in Russia, including in Moscow, were prevented in coordination with Uzbek law enforcement agencies.
He also stressed the need to expand cooperation with the Afghan authorities in the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking. In his opinion, the special services of the EU countries are simultaneously increasing their presence in the CIS countries.
Russian President Vladimir Putin in his greeting to the participants of the anti-fascist forum "The fight against international terrorism, arbitrariness and aggression. For Peace and Security" on May 24 noted the importance of unification for building a just, democratic and multipolar world. The Head of State stressed that the parties of the Russian parliament share a common patriotic position and help protect the country's sovereignty.
