Dog thief Sergey Pai, accused of stealing and killing a border collie named Sima in New Moscow, has pleaded not guilty to animal cruelty. This was reported on May 25 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.

Testifying in the Shcherbinsky District Court of Moscow, Pai stated that he acted as a "zoo engineer" when he killed the stolen dog. The knacker called the method of execution "painless," explaining that he wanted to get "therapeutic fat" and acted according to some "well-known practice." Pie packed the animal's remains in bags and put them in the freezer so that when it got dark, he could scatter them in dumpsters.

The knacker confirmed that he has an education in zoopsychology, and admitted that he has an eight-year-old Labrador to whom the man is "strongly attached." According to him, he committed murder for the sake of the health of his relatives, who had allegedly been ill for two months.

The Shcherbinsky court of Moscow on November 12 last year arrested Pai in the case of theft and brutal murder of a dog. It was noted that the defendant was near a garage box on Flotskaya Street in Shcherbinka, where he lured a dog, abducted it and fled in a car. Later, he inflicted life-threatening injuries on the animal.

The Moscow City Court rejected Pai's appeal in December. A source familiar with the process said: Pai stated that he killed the dog allegedly for the sake of treating his sick daughter. Later, the prosecutor's office approved the indictment against Sergei Pai.
