Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has been diagnosed with skin cancer. This was reported on May 25 by the Reuters news agency, citing a message from his office.

"The president of Brazil <...> began preventive radiation therapy treatment after he was diagnosed with a cancerous skin tumor," the publication says.

According to a representative of the presidential administration, the neoplasm was detected at an early stage. Lula da Silva will undergo 15 sessions of radiation therapy to prevent further spread of the disease.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva announced on July 18 last year his intention to run for president again next year, if his health permits. He also added that he would run for president in the most democratic way for the sake of victory, not for the sake of struggle.
