On May 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that reduces the number of necessary procedural documents for examining drivers for alcohol intoxication.

The document amends articles 27.12 and 27.13 of the Code of Administrative Offences (Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation). According to current regulations, when identifying a driver with signs of intoxication, police officers are required to draw up from three to five documents. This list includes protocols on suspension from driving and on the detention of a vehicle, an act of examination, a protocol of referral for a medical examination, as well as a protocol on an administrative offense.

The new rules make it possible to eliminate the mandatory drawing up of a separate protocol on suspension from driving. Instead, inspectors will be able to put an appropriate mark in the inspection report, other protocols or in the decision on the case. A similar procedure is provided for the procedure for detaining a car: it is now allowed to make an entry about it in the protocol on the offense or in the decision on the initiation of a case.
